Artist Statement

My paintings are a struggle between the conflicting demands of visual form and philosophical content. Often the content is superimposed in ink on a layered foundation of colors, textures and meaningful materials. In the first two examples, I’ve used antique panorama photographs to speculate about the lives, deaths and significance of the parade of humanity that preceded us. In the second two examples, I’ve painted cycles of life on 78 rpm records.
