The board and staff of McLean Project for the Arts are saddened to learn of the death April 22, 2024, of longtime MPA friend and supporter Yasmine Iskander.

An abstract artist who worked primarily with acrylics on canvas and on paper, Yasmine’s art was passionate and direct. It captured the vibrancy of her extraordinary life journey and her personal interpretation of the world around her.

Curated into MPAartfest beginning in 2017, Yasmine developed a strong community of supporters and collectors. In 2018, Yasmine received the Second Prize in the 2018-2019 Kennedy Center VSA Emerging Young Artist national program. Her piece, Dragon, toured the country as part of an exhibition entitled Detour, which culminated at the Kennedy Center Hall of States. An image of this winning artwork was also part of a public art installation at the Kennedy Center’s REACH campus.

Yasmine’s legacy lives on through her art. Her collections are in several states in the US, in Germany, Spain, Italy, France, and in Latin America and include individuals and large corporations such as Amazon, Google, Carr Company, Citizens Bank, Fifth Third Bank, and more. Those of us with her art in our homes will cherish her continued presence.

The board and staff of McLean Project for the Arts are grateful to the Iskander Family for designating MPA as the recipient of memorial gifts in Yasmine’s memory. Memorial gifts in honor of Yasmine will be dedicated towards MPA’s ArtReach program, which extends MPA’s visual arts exhibitions into the community through gallery tours and workshops for FCPS Title I elementary schools and individuals with physical and developmental disabilities.
