Artist Statement
This work honors and brings attention to the victims of extreme weather events that have become more prevalent due to climate change. Wild fires, heat waves and floods disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. What will inspire us to make necessary sacrifices to better protect vulnerable people and our planet? ‘It is in the shelter of each other that the people live’ –Irish proverb
My work is an investigation of the human condition through abstraction. I am particularly interested in resilience, hope and healing. Currently, I am creating work in response to the stories of women in my community who have faced adversity and retained, or returned to, a sense of hope. Another focus of my work is interconnectedness, which I feel most deeply through time in natural environments, my yoga practice and while engaged in making art.
