MPA Downtown: Art in the Heart of the Community

MPA’s new Arts and Education Center is years in the making. This new, permanent and cost-effective space is ideally suited to deliver on MPA’s mission. This second location–in the heart of McLean’s central business district, next to a Metro bus stop, and in walking distance of hundreds of homes–will be a landmark for the arts, giving the McLean community a vibrant place to gather, learn, and connect.

Opening Doors to Innovate

This new art campus in downtown McLean will have a powerful impact on the community, spanning three key programmatic areas:

Noteworthy Exhibitions

Two new public galleries for MPA will expand exhibiting capacity and build on its stellar reputation as a showcase for outstanding contemporary regional art. These state-of-the-art galleries will present single and multi-artist curated shows along with juried exhibitions. The expanded exhibition space will allow MPA to build a multifunction art box gallery for emerging art forms including digital, light, and installation art. Outdoor spaces provide additional opportunities for large-scale sculpture and installations. These reimagined galleries allow for an increase both in the number of exhibitions MPA can provide, as well as an opportunity to expand the mediums shared with the public.

Educational Initiatives

Art education has been central to MPA’s mission from its inception. For the first time, this new center will allow our teaching spaces to be co-located with our exhibition spaces. That physical proximity builds synergies for MPA students and the community-at-large to be inspired by working artists as they teach, exhibit, and create community and conversation around their art.

MPA will continue to teach in the DuVal Studio at the McLean Community Center and will invest in both new and current classrooms.

Distinctive Hospitality

Building community involves bringing people together. The MPA signature hospitality, appreciated by artists and members of our community alike, will have a permanent home in our downtown location, which will include:

  • Flexible spaces that allow for performances, lectures, and even afternoon teas to bring together art lovers from across the region and beyond
  • Carefully curated public spaces, including a cafe and a courtyard
  • Ample parking availability and back-of-house facilities

Contact Laura Gleason if you have any questions at lgleason@mpaart.org.

Please note: MPA is a nonprofit organization, and our 60th anniversary events raise critical funds needed to support our mission-based programs. At this time, we cannot accommodate splitting sponsor packages between individuals, companies, or families. Sponsorship packages are intended to be purchased by one entity.
