Artist Statement

Michael Gessner is an artist who creates sculptural works, hanging and free-standing, from small and medium sizes up to large-scale installations. The works are done with organic materials, primarily wood, using carving and construction techniques. Following this material, Gessner continues to expand his exploration of grain, that mysterious and infinitely variable current of structure running through wood, connecting the present and future to the primeval past.
