Artist Statement
This work was driven from my summer pen and ink sketches at the botanical gardens, that evolved and transformed to their most basic forms where the truth of the painting appears. “After the Storm,” to me, touches on the environmental shift of climate change. Glimpses of fire, rising sea levels, and destructive tsunamis are visible. Today’s political turmoil and unjustness has created an unstable state of social and emotional conditions for some of us, which we are trying to grasp, and for me, it feels like I have built a cocoon to protect me from it.
